Most Reidell R3 size equal to S.A sizes.  In other words if you are a South African 5, your Reidell skate will be a 5.
However, there are always exceptions so check this in the chart below by actually measuring your foot. The measurements below were taken from the Riedell Ritz stick. To determine the proper boot length - In a standing  position and on a flat surface place your heel against a wall and take a ruler or tape measure and lay it next to your foot. Measure from your longest toe to
the heel. It is best to do this measurement with both feet in case one foot may be slightly longer than the other. Riedell sizes their boots for a snug fit so if you prefer a little room, then add 1/2-3/4 of a cm to your foot measurement.
It is generally recommended to go for a more snug fit rather than a loose fit for playing derby though you don't want to be uncomfortably tight. Also remember that leather boots will stretch though vinyl not so much

Every boot that Riedell makes has what is a called a last or a mold. Riedell make all their boots based on 4 main lasts: A 248 D/D last, a 395 D/D last, a 965 D/B last and a 965 B /AA last. The letters eg D or B in the last refers to width, the higher the letter, the wider the boot. They range from AA (narrowest)
  to D (widest).
248 D/D last - is used for boots 695, 195, 595 and 125. This boot has a ball width of D and a heel width of D.   These boots also have a low toe box height which can make the boots feel
narrower so are often better fitted to those with narrow pointy toes. These boots are also not true to the lenght sizing chart above, you have to add approx 0.5cm on your foot measurement.
395 D/D last - is used for boots R3, 795, dash, 811, and 395. This boot has a ball width of D and a heel width of D.
These boots have a higher toe box height which can make the boots feel longer so are often better fitted to those with square toes. These boots are true to the lenght sizing chart above.
965 D/B last - is used for  boots 1065, 965, 265, 126, and 122. This boot has a ball width of D and a heel width of B. These boots have a higher toe box height which can make the boots
feel longer so are often better fitted to those with square toes and the B heel gives a more snug fit. These boots are true to the length sizing chart above.
965 B/AA last - is used for special order only (and not stock) on boots 1065, 965, 265, 126, and 122. This boot has a ball width of B and a heel width of AA so is better for very narrow
feet. These boots are true to the length sizing chart above.

Riedell skates are narrow, even the D width, so check if your feet are too wide in the chart below. This chart is based roughly on a D width. Both feet should be measured in the sitting position using a tape measure. Measure the circumference of the widest portion of the ball of the foot pulling the tape snugly. If the chart gives you a higher size than your length gives you, you may be best to go with the Sure Grip skates as they are generally wider.
